The Author and Artist Hour featuring Franceska Jordan

Franceska Jordan has worked in Australia and internationally in the welfare, health, and academic field as a social worker, counsellor, educationalist, planner, advocate, and researcher. Franceska’s book - Under The Boab Tree is a stirring memoir that traverses Africa and Australia following the Speer- Jordan family who fled from persecution and poverty in Vilnius Lithuania to South Africa. The political machinations of that time in South Africa changed Franceska and her mother Isabella forever. This tale is about the souls of these women.... connecting to the people they meet, like Princess Yasmin Aga Khan – Rita Hayworth’s daughter and the richness of their hearts. The mother and daughter’s spiritual, political and humanitarian awakening in this chronicle gives them power and purpose in finding truth and justice for others and themselves. This story tells how the women come to a place of acceptance and stillness and the ultimate saviour of ‘Love’ being prevalent in their lives. A ‘Love’ that unravels and transcends exploitation and fear. Born in South Africa, Franceska tells of her mother, Isabella Jordan’s activism in standing up for human rights, as the growing apartheid stranglehold tore the country apart in the fifties and beyond. Isabella joined the workers’ trade unions movement, much to her husband’s opposition. The domestic violence that followed in their home kept pace with the growing hatred around the country.
